Describe your role at Meister in exactly 10 words. I describe the Meister tools’ superpowers eloquently and with verve.
What about Meister appealed to you most?

I used MindMeister and MeisterTask as a student, but only really made the connection to Meister as a company when I clicked the ‘submit’ button on LinkedIn’s application service. I explored the website and quickly got the impression that Meister was an organization of good, hardworking folk, on a mission to help others achieve happy, positive and sustainable workspaces. Right in line with my own interests!

Describe yourself in fewer than 20 words.

I’m disciplined and organized. I ugly-laugh at punny jokes and have zero impulse control around pancakes.

What do you hope to accomplish in the next three years?

Professionally, I’m definitely hoping to develop my skills within the research and marketing realm, especially given the important role of human psychology in it. I am particularly interested in learning what motivates people, how they learn, how they can better organize their work and personal commitments, and how I can help them with this. On a personal level, I never learned how to ride a bicycle, so it might be nice to get around to this at some point or other in the near future.

Describe your role at Meister in exactly 10 words. I support Meister’s teams by describing their professional efforts beautifully.
What made you apply for the job?

I applied for three reasons: Vienna, writing, and Meister. I knew that I loved the city from previous visits, and always hoped to one day live there. After graduating from a History degree, I realised that my most transferable skill was in my ability to write to achieve a purpose. And when I came across Meister and the company values on LinkedIn, everything seemed to come together.

How has your education prepared you for this job?

My degree involved a lot of independent research, planning and writing. For each assignment, I had to read extensively about the topic and then decide how I wanted to present my thoughts. Finally, I had to write extensive and persuasive essays. I believe my job is similar to this, only the actual content differs. From university, I developed and learned a strong and effective process, and now I’m just working on implementing it to a different environment.

Were you nervous for your first day?

Not at all. Although this is my first job, I felt so supported during the entire recruitment process that I felt absolutely ready to meet everybody in person. From the moment I stepped through the door, I saw friendly faces I recognized from my interviews. People approached me and addressed me directly by name, before I even introduced myself in person which made me feel super accepted and relaxed.

Describe your onboarding experience.

The onboarding week was very well structured and organized, making it so much easier to settle in and prepare for our new roles. There was a lot of information to take in, but also enough time to digest everything. I appreciated the work that went into all of the presentations and felt supported throughout.

What is better in Vienna than in your hometown?

Everything! There is no comparison between such a grand city and a small Yorkshire mining town.

Why did you decide to apply to work for a company rather than continue freelance?

Working freelance can be lonely and I really missed having contact with like-minded people. The culture at Meister is very international, with people from so many different countries and backgrounds, which makes for a very exciting, interesting and diverse working environment.

What’s the best thing about your trainee program?

The best thing about the trainee program is that we get to really dive deep into all three commercial departments at Meister. By gaining a comprehensive understanding of each commercial process, we will also learn about how their strategic goals are interconnected.

Personally, I am really excited about the learning and growing opportunities the program offers. With this being my first full-time job, I can’t wait to be part of many different projects and develop a truly diverse skill set.

Why do you want to work in Vienna?

I have been living in Vienna for six years now and it’s one of my favorite cities because of its great livability. Whether you’re a nature lover, a coffee addict or a big foodie, Vienna has it all. The variety of restaurants, traditional cafés, and leisure activities in and around the city guarantee a lot of fun. I also love that the office is so centrally located, so that commuting by public transport is easy and fast.

How were your first few weeks at Meister?

My first weeks at Meister were filled with many interesting onboarding sessions. I have never before enjoyed such an extensive onboarding period, where so many people contributed by holding workshops in their field of expertise. I also got to know the bigger picture in terms of the overall company values and goals.

Moreover, I was incredibly lucky to take part in this year’s awesome Hackfest in Croatia, right after my onboarding! The trip was absolutely amazing and gave me the opportunity to meet and connect with many of my fellow colleagues. So all in all, these were the best first few weeks I could have imagined!

What were you most excited about when you decided to join Meister?

I am really excited to learn from the three departments which I’ll join in rotation, namely Sales, Marketing and Customer Success. Having the opportunity to gain a holistic perspective of the commercial side of an organization is quite rare. Other than that, I was excited about joining Meister because its culture is all about inclusion, diversity and respect.

How would you describe your first days at Meister?

I would describe my first days as extremely organized and thorough. Seeing the onboarding schedule seemed like a lot at first, but during the week I got to meet so many people and ask lots of questions which helped me learn and settle faster. Everyone was incredibly welcoming and this reduced the more stressful feelings that usually come with the first few days.

How do you make sure you stay organized?

During my studies and previous work experience I worked a lot with pen and paper, and sticky notes. Basically, my organization methods were quite “old school”. However, now I have the opportunity to explore the very sleek and functional products that Meister offers. Using the Meister Suite has definitely helped me stay organized during a very busy first few weeks!

Were you creative as a child?

I am still a child.

Why did you choose Meister?

Mainly because of the snack bar.

Seriously though, the role description also perfectly matched what I wanted to do! After working for different clients in a design agency, it felt like the right time to make a change and work as an in-house designer for a single brand. I want to contribute to developing a brand over time and focus on long-term decisions and strategy.

I also really like Meister as a company, and love the products it makes. Helping millions of people be more productive and creative is an amazing motivation boost to go to work in the morning.

How did you find the onboarding process?

It is awesome to start a new job the way we did at Meister! Onboarding helped me get to know many people from different departments and their roles. We were given a lot of information, but we also had enough breaks in between the sessions. The People and Culture team successfully designed an easy-going yet informative first week, and I appreciated this so much.

If we were visiting your hometown what would you recommend we do?

If you ever visit Cyprus and more specifically my hometown Limassol, you should go for a walk along the promenade (called Molos) and around the Old Port. And you absolutely cannot skip going to the beach! In Cyprus, a meze is the perfect way to taste a variety of traditional local specialities and wine, and you can find it in traditional tavernas! Last but not least, for history lovers, the historic site of Kourion and Limassol’s castle offer a unique insight into the history of the civilizations that used to live on the island.

What do you think makes Meister different?

The people! Meister’s values are lived up to day in and day out. Everyone in the company has been so welcoming and approachable since my first day. When great people work beautifully together, it’s easy to see how such fantastic products are built!

What are you most excited about?

I believe the customer support team plays a crucial role in the public’s perception of Meister. Therefore, I’m super excited to be able to help build this team from the ground up, giving it my own spin while also growing personally with the team.

How did you feel on your first day at Meister?

I felt really excited to meet everybody and to see the office which I’d heard a lot about– it didn’t disappoint!

In what ways do you think you’ll become more specialized at Meister?

I want to become an artist of punctuated writing. Previously, creating good texts for different channels was unfortunately often just an “I’ll do it on the side” task. However, I’ve always been sensitive to the way people communicate ideas, so at Meister, I expect to see great development in the professionalism of my writing. I hope to not only inform readers, but also inspire them. And who knows, maybe I’ll learn so much that one day I’ll be able to write my own book.

What’s the main difference between Graz and Vienna?

Graz is much “greener”: it has the green-heart-symbol of Styria, alternative stores, farmers markets and so on. I’ve become much more environmentally conscious and minimalist since living in Graz. I love the local mountain, the Schöckl. Last year, my crazy summer routine was to climb it once a week before work.
