MindMeister Incident on January 12, 2022 – What You Need to Know

As you may already know, MindMeister experienced a period of downtime last week. We would like to apologize again for any inconvenience caused. The good news is that we are “in the green” again – MindMeister is back to normal. We would like to give you some information that will hopefully shed light on what happened and show our commitment to ensuring that similar situations do not occur in the future.

MindMeister Incident on January 12, 2022 – What You Need to Know

About the Incident

MindMeister is a collaborative software on a simply enormous scale. Around 25 million users worldwide have been creating mind maps in the tool since its launch in 2007.

In order to make our mind mapping software a reliable tool for you, your business, or your school, we store all the topics that have been created securely in our database. This makes our software easier to work with: whenever you open your mind map, all the information you need is exactly where you left it.

However, storing such a vast amount of data can lead to complications, such as the one experienced on January 12. In essence, our database reached the limit of what it could store, which stopped users from creating new maps.

The Fix

Naturally, the inability to create new maps can negatively affect your experience with MindMeister, which is why we focused considerable efforts into finding a solution, fast.

Since the event, we have updated the way in which data is stored. While this was being performed (it can take some time for such a large amount of data), an interim solution was implemented. We have tested the new solution to ensure data consistency and foresee no further problems in the immediate future.

The incident was also contained to MindMeister. The other tools in the Meister Suite – MeisterTask and MeisterNote – were not affected by the issue.

Our Promise

MindMeister is an integral part of many businesses and educational institutions worldwide. We understand our responsibility: it is our highest priority to deliver on our promise of near-continuous uptime. We assure you that all necessary steps were taken to restore stability so that you could get back to work as soon as possible.

We would also like to reassure you that despite the recent performance disruptions, your mind maps remained safe and your data was kept secure.
